Like with Korkmaz, Curry won’t be able to benefit from the defensive attention that Simmons’ draws when driving to the lane, whether in the half-court or in transition. However, that’s not the only issue that Simmons’ eventual departure will impact Curry.
Without Simmons’ size and playmaking, Curry will most likely have to return to a bench role. Tyrese Maxey will have to start in Simmons’ place and a backcourt of Maxey and Curry is just too much of a defensive liability.
Curry is easily the best overall shooter that the Sixers have and it stinks that he probably can’t start next to Embiid now because of this turn of events. Curry will have to be the 76ers’ sixth man and there’s a good chance he can still do a good job doing that.
Milton, Korkmaz, and Curry will all be hurt now that the future between the Philadelphia 76ers and Simmons is no more. While these players can still be successful without the All-Star playmaker, it will hurt their ceilings as players.
