It might have only been two seasons, but the impact that J.J. Redick had on the Philadelphia 76ers can be clearly seen. On September 21, 2021, the 15 veterans announced that he’s going to retire from NBA.

Considering his NBA and college accomplishments, Redick surely has earned to retire on his terms. While we at The Sixer Sense surely wish the best as he gets to spend time with his family, it would only be appropriate to reflect on his time with the Sixers.

Reflecting on Redick’s sting with the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the two seasons that Redick spent in Philly, he averaged 17.6 points on 40.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line. In his second season with the 76ers, he averaged a career-high 18.1 points despite being 34-years-old at the time.

“Redick’s also fourth in Sixers’ 3-point percent as well, he only trails…”

He and Joel Embiid become one of the most unstoppable two-man game with the dribble handoff game they had developed. Redick also was a leader in the locker room that appeared to be toxic at times with players like Jimmy Butler and Ben Simmons’ egos in there.

Redick was also able to break Kyle Korver’s single-season record for made 3-point attempts. By the time his tenure ended, he’s been in the top-10 in several 3-point categories for the Sixers. He’s sixth All-Time in made 3-pointers with 433. Redick’s also fourth in Sixers’ 3-point percent as well, he only trails Seth Curry, Dana Barros, and Korver.

Redick’s time with the Philadelphia 76ers was too short, but what he was able to do for the franchise on and off the court can’t be overlooked. As he enters this next phase of his life, Sixers fans should wish him nothing but the best.
