3 guards for Maxey to emulate: Chris Paul
The best is saved for last and Chris Paul “aka the point god” will go down as a top-5 point guard of all-time. He just lead the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals this past season, which is a big feat considering the last time the franchise made the postseason was when Steve Nash was their point guard.
Despite being past his prime, Paul is still an elite two-way point guard. He’s a three-level scorer and despite being listed at 6-feet tall, he’s still a very good defender for his position. He’s also one of the few remaining traditional point guards in the NBA.
Paul can orchestrate an offense like few others in the NBA. Last season, he averaged 16.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.4 steals. He’s an elite game manager and can pick apart any defense.
While Maxey has been good about not turning the ball over, he’s not a great facilitator at this point. He has to learn to run an offense and pick up a few tips of the trade from Paul would certainly help the Sixers this season.
Maxey is going to play a big role in the Philadelphia 76ers’ success this season. Taking parts of Holiday’s, Lowry’s, and Paul’s games will certainly help him put the Sixers in a good position to win.
