Four early in-season buyout candidates: Gary Harris

Once thought of as an up-and-coming 3-and-D shooting guard, Gary Harris has fallen off on the offensive end in a major way. For the past three seasons, he hasn’t shot above 35.0 percent from the 3-point line. However, that shouldn’t scare off the Philadelphia 76ers from being a potential suitor if he gets bought out.

Harris is still a pretty good defender at his position and after he was traded to the Orlando Magic last season, his 3-point percentage improved to 36.5 percent for 20 games. In most places he would have a chance to get plenty of minutes to improve those numbers, however, the Magic is one of the worse spots for the veteran.

Orlando has had multiple first round picks at the guard positions on their roster since the. The group of young guards includes former Sixer Markelle Fultz, Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, and R.J. Hampton. That doesn’t include former Rookie of the Year and Sixers guard Michael Carter-Williams. The Magic are deep at the guard position and it will be hard for Harris to get playing time.

He is in the last year of his deal worth $20.5 million so the Magic can’t really trade him and as a rebuilding team, they can afford to buy him out. With Simmons currently not with the team, Harris’ defense would be a welcome sight to the 76ers.
