Four early in-season buyout candidates: John Wall

As of now, it doesn’t seem likely that John Wall will be bought out by the Houston Rockets. Both sides have decided he isn’t going to be their starting point guard. The Rockets will be going with Kevin Porter Jr. and instead of making Wall come off the bench, they decided to allow the veteran to sit in favor of looking for a good trade, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Until after the NBA trade deadline, it’s unlikely for the stance to change. However, to imagine that Wall would be okay to sit a full season with him already being 31-years-old is hard to believe. If the Rockets can’t find a trade for his contract worth $91.7 million for two years, with the last year as a player option, then it’s possible that Wall asks for a buyout.

If that does happen, Wall can still be a quality starting point guard for most NBA teams and the Philadelphia 76ers would be one of those teams. Despite the injures in recent history, Wall is still a better point guard than Tyrese Maxey or Shake Milton at this point in time.

He’s not a great floor spacer, but he’s a willing shooting which is more than what Simmons has been in the past. He can push the pace and is a dynamic passer. He would certainly help Philly improve their playoff chances this season. He’s not a long term solution at point guard, but he would make the Sixers better this year if he’s bought out.
