The new city edition jerseys for the Philadelphia 76ers are fantastic. It pulls from the past of the spectrum era of Sixers basketball while also giving it a fresh look. Not only are the uniforms themselves are unique, but the Sixers have also done a great job advertising them. They made sure to connect the past and present in this tweet below.

This is actually is part of a thread of tweets that show off the new jersey on key players like Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle, Danny Green, and Seth Curry. Some of these players got very cool knick names while others had clever puns. Either way, it seems only right to rank these nicknames/puns, so lets’ begin.

6. Ranking city edition player nicknames: Tobias Harris

To be honest, this one is not a nickname one in this list bit, but it does make a nice shout out to Tay Money, the singer of the song “The Assignment”, not recommended for children. That being written, in my opinion, it’s not super clever, but the modern music shout-out does give it some legitimacy to this promotion featuring Tobias Harris.

5. Ranking city edition player nicknames: Danny Green

The graphics on this one are pretty good and “The Green Ranger” is a solid nickname of a seasoned veteran like Danny Green. That being said, it felt like this one could have been so much more. For example, they could have had given Green more props like possibly a cowboy hat or something along those lines. This isn’t bad, but they could have done more with the theme of his nickname.

4. Ranking city edition player nicknames: Seth Curry

This isn’t a nickname again but really captivates who Seth Curry has been this season. Curry has been one of the best shooters in the NBA this year and having two basketballs on fire in each hand is a strong message conveying it. Yet again, if they thought of an actual nickname to his theme, then this would have been better.

3. Ranking city edition player nicknames: Tyrese Maxey

The background fits perfectly with the theme of “Mad Maxey” and the slogan “The Speed Warrior” really fits well with who he is as a player. The topping on the cake is the goggles as a proper. If Tyrese Maxey was a marque player then this might have been higher on the list, but still to get third place is nothing to scoff at.

2. Ranking city edition player nicknames: Joel Embiid

There’s no denying that Joel Embiid is the legit star on the Sixers and in the whole NBA. He’s one of the most physically dominant players in today’s game so giving him a Godzilla or King Kong vibe with “Embeast” nickname. That being written, it would have been nice if Embiid was looking more intimidating in the picture.

1. Ranking city edition player nicknames: Matisse Thybulle

This one was pure genius by the Philadelphia 76ers. With Thybulle being one of the best pick-pocketers in the NBA, the knick name is perfect and the graphic and propers work perfectly. Like there’s just no debating this one for sure. This needs to be his permanent nickname for the defensive ace.

The Philadelphia 76ers did a great job coming with this marketing scheme and hopefully, fans really enjoy these new uniforms.
