NBA power rankings — Grizzlies, Cavaliers, Bucks

  • 15. Memphis Grizzlies (6-4)

The Grizzlies continue to receive superhuman contributions from Ja Morant, who is well on his way to his first All-Star appearance. Desmond Bane and De’Anthony Melton have both stepped up this season, while Dillon Brooks’ impending return further strengthens a well-rounded group. Memphis competes as hard as any playoff contender out there. It’s only fitting, given that franchise’s reputation.

  • 14. Cleveland Cavaliers (7-4)

Collin Sexton’s knee injury is a huge bummer, but the Cavs’ strong start to the season is no fluke. Ricky Rubio and Lauri Markkanen have made immediate impacts, while Evan Mobley is the early favorite for Rookie of the Year in this writer’s opinion. He’s miles better than any other rookie on the defensive end, and so far, the offense has been more than impressive. With Mobley and Jarrett Allen in the frontcourt, Cleveland’s explosive offense finally has a defensive backbone to support it.

  • 13. Milwaukee Bucks (4-6)

The reigning NBA champs have started the season on a sour note, but there’s no reason to panic. Jrue Holiday missed time to open the season, and now Khris Middleton is absent due to COVID. Once healthy, the Bucks should establish a familiar rhythm and shoot up the Eastern Conference standings. Giannis Antetokounmpo is arguably the best player in basketball. Just give it a little time.
