3 needs that the Sixers have moving forward: Perimeter defense
Having a need for another perimeter defender seems almost disrespectful to Thybulle but there’s a reason for it and it has nothing to do with Thybulle’s defense. In fact, if anything Thybulle has a strong case to make his second consecutive All-Defensive team.
The defensive skills of Embiid and Andre Drummond shouldn’t be questioned either. Both are elite on the defensive end of the ball. The issue for the Sixers everyone else outside of those three players plus the absence of Simmons is clearly being felt on that side of the court as well.
The Sixers are full of average to below-average defenders outside of the four players I’ve already mentioned. This has led to the Sixers giving up 106.8 points per game which is 18th best in the NBA.
As stated the interior defense isn’t the issue for the Sixers and despite Thybulle being very good on that end of the court too, his offense does put a cap on his minutes per game at the moment. The need for another good perimeter defender is there if the team wants to make a deep playoff run this season.
