NBA power rankings — Spurs, Pelicans, Raptors

  • 24. San Antonio Spurs (8-13)

The Spurs have won four straight behind the strength of Dejounte Murray’s breakout season. He’s a nightly triple-double threat, taking massive steps forward as both a shot-maker and a facilitator. There’s still something to be said for Gregg Popovich, who is one of the most storied coaches in NBA history. San Antonio is young, and no, the Spurs won’t make noise in the playoffs. But they can still compete hard.

  • 23. New Orleans Pelicans (7-18)

The Pelicans are 5-5 over their last 10 games after starting the season 2-13. The main reason for their success is Jonas Valanciunas, who is the clear MVP on that team in Zion Williamson’s absence. His absurd stretch of 3-point shooting and paint-pounding dominance has lifted New Orleans to a new tier of these rankings. Zion’s eventual return could make things legitimately interesting.

  • 22. Toronto Raptors (10-13)

The Raptors’ elite defense has been in a funk of late, with the absence of OG Anunoby being especially notable. There’s still enough talent on the roster to compete for a play-in spot, but Toronto has won just three of its last 10 and looks as vulnerable as ever.
