Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers expected to sign Myles Powell to two-way deal
The Philadelphia 76ers have clearly needed help at point guard for most of the season and still do. Tyrese Maxey is the only pure point guard on the active roster. Shake Milton is more of a combo guard, two-way contract point guard Grant Riller has been injured the majority of the year and Ben Simmons has yet to make his season debut.
The Sixers have had to rely on Furkan Korkmaz as the third-string point guard for most of the season. However, it’s rumored that the Sixers’ president of basketball operations Daryl Morey is addressing the depth at the point guard position, according to Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.
Philadelphia 76ers rumored to sign Powell.
That’s right, the Sixers are rumored to be waiving Riller, who never suited up for Philly in the regular season in favor of Myles Powell. Riller will have to prove he can stay healthy in the G-League if he wants another shot in the NBA.
We at The Sixer Sense wish Riller the best of luck in future endeavors. With that being written, there is a reason for excitement with the potential signing of Powell.
Powell was a four-year point guard from Seton Hall. He averaged 17.5 points and 2.3 assists, while making 34.6 percent of his 3-pointers on 7.8 attempts for his college career. He’s played 14 games in two seasons in the G-League. In those 14 games with the Westchester Knicks, he averaged 17.6 points and 3.6 assists, while shooting 41.9 percent from downtown on 6.6 attempts.
He would of course join the Delaware Blue Coats on the G-League level if he does indeed join the Sixers. He’d get the opportunity to play with Aaron Henry, Jaden Springer, and Paul Reed on a semi-regular basis on the Blue Coats which is good for team chemistry.
Unlike Grant, it seems more likely that Powell will get a chance to suit up with the Philadelphia 76ers if this rumor does become reality. Powell will be a welcomed addition to the Sixers depth chart moving forward.
