The Philadelphia 76ers have had a tough season up to this point. They’ve been without their second-best player for all of this season, their best player has been struggling with health in one way or the other, and their roster has been stricken by COVID as a whole.

Despite that, the franchise still holds a record of 16-15. However, time is running out of time before this season is considered a lost one in terms of maximizing the prime years of Joel Embiid. With that in mind, the Sixers need to make a move sooner rather than later. That is why this COVID-19 outbreak is the ideal team to try to deal to trade Ben Simmons.

There have been multiple teams decimated by this new wave of COVID. The NBA had to change the rules regarding adding players just so games wouldn’t be canceled. Even the Sixers added veteran combo guard Tyler Johnson to the roster as a result of this new wave.

Teams are struggling because of this new wave and could become desperate to make a trade to add a healthy player like Simmons who could come in and make a difference right away. He could literally save a team from tanking due to having multiple players in COVID protocols.

Clubs that are on the fringe of making the postseason or in danger of falling out of contention could see trading for Simmons as a lifeline to make their dreams a reality. Those types of teams could be willing to overpay in a trade just to keep their hopes alive.

It’s hard to say what a Simmons trade would look like if players involved are in COVID protocols as well. However, the Philadelphia 76ers should be willing to listen to offers from teams during this new wave of COVID. They might just be able to get a club to overpay in a potential deal.
