Here at the Sixer Sense podcast, we hope everyone had a great New Year’s and have an even greater 2022. That being said, we bring to you some positive vibes regarding the Philadelphia 76ers. We haven’t recorded since the Toronto win, so we have to recap one of the more impressive Sixers’ wins of this season against the Nets.
The Sixer Sense podcast: Ep. 151
Lucas Johnson and Christopher Kline break down the Brooklyn game, where Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey went off for a 59 point total, going toe-to-toe versus Kevin Durant and James Harden. The podcast looks back at what stood out in this game, including decent play from Seth Curry and Andre Drummond, and a subpar performance from Tobias Harris.
The next topic revolves around the coaching change for the Sixers. Due to Doc Rivers entering health and safety protocols, Dan Burke has stepped in to lead the 76ers on the bench. We share our thoughts related to what Burke’s experience means during this stretch and how much credit he deserves for the win in Brooklyn.
After we wrap up that subject, the podcast explores the potential of a Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid duo. Lucas and Chris discuss how they rank compared to other notable point guard / center duos around the NBA. If Maxey can continue playing like he did against the Nets, there is a strong chance this duo could spell trouble for the rest of the league.
The last topic we talk about is early MVP rankings. As of today, NBA.com has a top-5 list of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Nikola Jokic, and Rudy Gobert. We offer our rankings and make sure to include where we think Joel Embiid fits in on the MVP list.
