Sixers Treasures: Cherish the Memories
The 76ers went through a lot before landing Iverson in 1996. Several years of losing after the departure of Charles Barkley, in an era where Clarence Weatherspoon and Dana Barros were the main attractions at the Spectrum. If you are a newer fan, the depression years of the Sam Hinkie Process is unquestionably a forgettable time period. Clearly, Iverson and Embiid came at a price.
At the end of the day, not every team will ever have an Allen Iverson, and not every team will ever have a Joel Embiid. If you are old enough to have witnessed both, treasure memories of these two players because they don’t come along often.
In 2016, Iverson cried at his Hall of Fame ceremony. I imagine the day that Embiid does the same. I can’t predict his numbers or if he will ever win us a championship, but I suspect that he, too, will shed tears for the city that drafted him and embraced him like our own.
