Why the Sixers shouldn’t play Ben Simmons: Final Thoughts

Remember that coworker? Well, they are still lingering around. Taking sick days and being brought up at the water cooler during office gossip time. Then, one day, they are let go. Everyone finally exhales and things get back to normal. No more negativity. Gone is the silent resentment from coworkers who carried the weight of the disgruntled pariah.

This is clearly what the 76ers should do. Cut ties. Make the trade, yesterday. Do not allow Simmons back in the building for fear of blowing up everything this team has worked so hard for this year. I do not care about winning a title this season if it means waiting for a player who will better fit next to Joel Embiid and will dedicate themselves to the franchise. Someone who will be reliable in the most important moments of the game. Someone who won’t blame the fan base, coaches, or players who supported him pretty much his entire career.

The Sixers must be careful. Should he be placed back on the court in a 76ers uniform and start unpacking his belongings in the locker room, a snowball can form and turn into an avalanche as quick as an under-the-basket Ben Simmons pass. They do that and someone else might start packing their bags. Who you may ask? Let’s just say the other Sixers’ All-Star who could consider going some place where villains are welcome and play with a favorite former teammate.

Don’t do it, Daryl Morey. Let Simmons sit if a trade is not appealing before February 10th. As someone once told me, “Your ex is an ex for a reason.” Time to move on.
