Sixers need to target 3 backup point guards at the trade deadline: Celtics’ reserve

Despite being a historical rival, it doesn’t mean that the Boston Celtics can’t be a potential trade partner. The Celtics haven’t reached their expectations this season as they’re currently seventh in the Eastern Conference, despite having both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The point guard position has been great for the Celtics and it might be in their best interest to shake things up at that spot. The Philadelphia 76ers can’t offer another point guard in exchange, but they can offer a young prospect they can flip in a different deal.

It’s a pretty easy swap here with Payton Pritchard going to Philly and Jaden Springer going to Boston. Springer is a first round pick from this past draft and has looked good in the G-League with the Delaware Blue Coats. The Celtics could choose to develop the shooting guard or trade him for a point guard latter.

Pritchard is a young two-way prospect at the point guard position. Not a great playmaker, but he’s a capable floor general, can score, and has potential on the defensive end. This season, he’s averaged 4.8 points and 1.7 assists, while making 37.1 percent from downtown. He’d be a quality backup for the Sixers this season moving forward.
