3 key matchups in Philadelphia 76ers-Toronto Raptors series: Joel Embiid vs. Pascal Siakam

This is the matchup between the club’s two best players in Joel Embiid and Pascal Siakam. This is a rematch of the 2019 NBA playoffs between these two big men but both teams are different now.

When the Raptors are healthy, Siakam is playing center instead of power forward like in years past. This year, he’s averaging 22.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. Despite not making the All-Star game this year, it could be argued this is his best season. Embiid should win the MVP this year by averaging 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.

In the last postseason matchup, the Sixers succeed by having Embiid guard Siakam and Rivers should follow that same formula that former head coach Brett Brown used in that matchup. Especially with the matchup being natural now.

The question becomes is the 6-foot-8 big man enough to slow down the 76ers 7-foot big man all by himself? The answer is no and that’s why Toronto usually double or triple teams Embiid. However, Embiid has to dominate despite the defense thrown at him if Philly want to have a shot.

This won’t be an easy series for the Philadelphia 76ers, but there is a way for the franchise to win it and it starts with Philly winning those three matchups.
