Due to a vaccine issue with Matisse Thybulle, per ESPN, veteran Danny Green did become the Philadelphia 76ers‘ fifth starter with three games at the end of the regular season. He’s started in the playoffs for the Sixers thus far as well due to the matchup against the Toronto Raptors.

He’s done well and a strong argument can be made that the veteran should remain the fifth starter for the 76ers for the rest of the playoffs.

The Philadelphia 76ers need to keep Green in the starting five for the postseason.

Philly is entering Game 4 with a 3-0 lead despite not having Thybulle for Game 3. However, it’s fair to write that for the most part, Thybulle has been a non-factor in this series. In two games this postseason, the wing defender has averaged 4.0 points, 0.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks, while converting 66.7 percent of his 1.5 3-point attempts per game.

Outside of shooting percent from deep on a low volume and blocks, Thybulle hasn’t been super impactful. On the flip side, Green has had a much bigger positive for the Sixers despite the fact he’s not nearly the defender that Thybulle is.

Green’s averaging 7.0 points, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks, while shooting 28.7 percent on 7.0 3-point attempts. While the shooting hasn’t been great overall, there are a  couple of things to consider. He’s a more willing shooter and has hit several timely shots in several games.

The fact that he’s known as a shooter makes the defense respect him which opens up things for Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey. That’s important for the offensive side of things during this postseason run and something that Thybulle cannot offer at this time in his career.

This fact isn’t just true about the Toronto Raptors, but any of the potential matchups the 76ers would play in during the playoffs. Green’s willingness to shoot is a bigger asset for the Sixers than Thybulle’s defense.

Green’s willingness to shoot the ball makes him an essential part of the Philadelphia 76ers’ postseason run and should stay into the starting five.
