Re-drafting the 2021 NBA Draft — 20. Tre Mann, Hawks
Tre Mann finished the season in extremely impressive fashion. This is mostly an upside pick, as the Hawks don’t need to invest in the point guard spot for obvious reasons. That said, Mann’s pull-up shooting and ability to generate offense off the dribble could boost Atlanta’s second unit in tandem with Bogdan Bogdanovic.
In the NBA, you need players who can create from scratch and break down a good set defense. Mann has that potential at the point guard spot. He would have quite the opportunity to learn behind Trae Young and he would probably be in line for minutes right away.
Atlanta would need to invest elsewhere, however, as Mann is not a good defender yet and the Hawks desperately need to improve the defense. Mann might be too small to play next to Trae Young for extended minutes, but their skill sets could mesh nicely in spurts. You take the best player available sometimes, and that is Mann.
