5 NBA veteran free agents that impressed in the G-League: D.J. Wilson

I was a fan of D.J. Wilson‘s when he was a young first round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2017 NBA draft. At 6-foot-10 and has great athleticism and decent shooting touch which makes him versatile on both ends of the floor.

The 26-year-old big man played with exclusively the Bucks until this season the 2021-22 season when he was traded to the Houston Rockets. This past season he played for the Raptors for four games in which he averaged 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds. For his career, he’s averaged 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds on 32.7 percent shooting from downtown. The biggest issue for Wilson isn’t talent but basketball I.Q.

However, he spent most of the season on the Oklahoma City Blue where he dominated. He averaged 19.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks. He also shot 33.9 percent from downtown during the regular season.

This postseason made it clear that the Sixers need more athleticism at the power forward spot. Wilson can play both big man positions and can stretch the floor. The question is did this past season help him mature mentally on the court enough to be an NBA player.
