Philadelphia 76ers: 3 potential free agents with Doc Rivers ties
3 potential free agents with Rivers ties: Jeff Green
Now known as “Uncle Jeff” Jeff Green was once a young promising talent in the NBA when he joined Rivers for the first time on the Boston Celtics in the 2011-12 season. He was the team’s sixth man as they made one last push for a playoff run with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.
Green’s second stint with Rivers came as a member of the Clippers in the 2015-16 season. It appears Rivers prefers to use Green off the bench which is fine if Green does come to the Philadelphia 76ers next season.
At 35-year-old, the veteran forward can still provide quality two-way play coming off the bench. He’d be a big upgrade for the Sixers’ second unit with his size and versatility. During his two stints with Rivers as his head coach, Green averaged 14.6 points with the Celtics and 10.9 points with the Clippers.
Green does have a player option for $4.5 million next season which makes signing him tricky even if he does opt-out. The 76ers can’t offer more and they have just as much as the Denver Nuggets, Green’s current team, to win their conference next season.
