Philadelphia 76ers: 3 Bi-annual exception guys to pursue in free agency: Cody Martin
Option number two is Cody Martin. Martin is in the same vein as Toscano-Anderson except he has gotten more minutes in his career. Martin has spent the first three years of his career in Charlotte where he was one of the only capable defenders on that team. Signing with the Sixers, Martin would be contributing to an already good defense because Joel Embiid is the anchor.
Safe to say that Martin’s greatest asset to an NBA team is his perimeter defense. The manner in which he plays he knows that rings true. The University of Nevada product has adopted the Kyle Lowry gene of willing to take charges. The shooting guard likes to play physically, slides his feet well, uses his chest well when staying in front of guys, and plays straight up when contesting shots at the rim.
Martin’s offense is purely complimentary. A passable player on offense. A connective piece who can handle the ball, attack closeouts, finish through contact, make the extra pass, shoot the open three-pointers, crash the boards, and hustle. The addition of Martin would beef up the wing position that the Sixers so desperately lacked in the postseason last year. A two-way wing at that.
