13. Mavericks: Luka Doncic and Christian Wood

If the Dallas Mavericks didn’t lose Jalen Brunson in free agency then they might be an elite team in the Western Conference. However, that wasn’t the case, but this offseason wasn’t a complete failure for the Mavericks.

They were able to trade for stretch-big man Christian Wood and signed veteran center JaVale McGee. Both are going to open up the Mavs pick-and-roll game, but Wood was the prize of the offseason for Dallas.

“Doncic should be a preseason favorite for MVP considering that he led Dallas to the West Finals this past season.”

Wood is now the team’s second-best player by a mile. When utilized correctly, he’s a player who can average around 20 points and 10 rebounds. The question will become are the Mavs better with him at power forward or center?

Luka Doncic is easily the best player on the Mavericks. Doncic should be a preseason favorite for MVP considering that he led Dallas to the West Finals this past season. This club only goes as far as he takes them and when he’s dialed in and in shape that’s pretty far.
