Sixers schedule — vs. Golden State Warriors, Dec. 16

Iron sharpens iron, so naturally the Sixers (and their fans) should be looking forward to a battle with the reigning champs. Golden State is the dynasty of this generation, with four rings in the Stephen Curry era — one pre-Durant, two with Durant, and now one post-Durant. No team has proven more adaptable and dynamic in the face of adversity.

The Warriors are naturally a tough matchup for the Sixers. They can spread the floor five-out, making Joel Embiid’s life difficult as the defensive anchor. Matisse Thybulle can give anyone hell, but Curry is a real test of his talents on defense.

On the flip side, the Sixers challenge Golden State quite a bit too. Embiid can wreak havoc in the paint against smaller teams (that said, Draymond Green has had success checking Embiid in the past). Philadelphia has the chance to be a much bigger, more physical group this season, and that could test the Warriors’ finesse system.

Frankly, any time Curry is on the calendar, you would be wise to watch the game. Golden State plays a beautiful brand of basketball, and the Warriors are tentative favorites to come out of the West again. So, if you consider the Sixers a real championship contender, you might want to see how they fare against the best of the West.
