Re-drafting the 2014 NBA Draft: Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic
Re-drafting the 2014 NBA Draft — 12. Spencer Dinwiddie
Spencer Dinwiddie has dealt with injuries and inconsistency as of late, but the former second-round pick has carved out a nice career for himself. Once oscillating between starter and Sixth Man of the Year contender in Brooklyn, Dinwiddie will now find himself starting alongside Luka Doncic in Dallas following Jalen Brunson’s departure to New York.
He has never been the most bankable 3-point shooter, but Dinwiddie is just enough of a threat from deep to open up his game as a driver. That’s where he butters his bread. Not many guards can match Dinwiddie’s volume and efficiency driving to the rim. He has excellent size for his position, good explosion off the dribble, and a talent for finishing tough shots in the paint.
Dinwiddie can also run point — he’s a smart facilitator and experienced pick-and-roll operator. He won’t as many point guard reps next to Doncic, but his ability to move effortlessly between on-ball and off-ball duties is part of the appeal. He’s a great slasher and who has proven to be a strong complementary talent next to star ball-handlers (D’Angelo Russell, to Kyrie Irving, to Bradley Beal, to Luka Doncic)
