Re-drafting the 2014 NBA Draft — 5. Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins never measured up to the No. 1 pick hype. For years in Minnesota, he oscillated between inconsistent and actively bad. He was simply not built to be a primary scorer. He could take a lot of shots, and even make some of them, but he didn’t play winning basketball until he arrived in Golden State.

The Warriors are perhaps the perfect fit for Wiggins, who made his first All-Star appearance in 2022. It’s fair to question whether Wiggins would look as good in a different team context. That said, his growth as a defender and offensive decision-maker is reason enough for optimism. Wiggins has always had the athleticism and raw talent. Now, he’s focusing his energy in the right places.

For that reason, Wiggins holds on to a top-five spot. It feels like he has several years of high-level complementary stardom left in the tank. He won’t lead your team to a championship, but as the third or fourth guy, he’s hard to beat.
