Re-drafting the 2014 NBA Draft — 7. Clint Capela
There’s a case for Clint Capela to go as high as fourth. If this article were based solely on accomplishments and performance level up to this point in time, he may very well have been fourth. Eight years of rock-solid, starting-caliber center play is nothing to scoff at — and Capela’s career is far from over.
That said, there’s more uncertainty around Capela’s durability and longevity than the players selected ahead of him. Last season was a definite step back for the 28-year-old. Is he at the tail end of his prime, or will he return to form in 2023?
When healthy, Capela is an excellent complementary star. He’s one of the top rebounders and shot-blockers in the game, with nimble feet and elite hops. On offense, he’s one of the NBA’s premier above-the-rim finishers. Not many players are more efficient within five feet of the rim. He has formed magnetic pick-and-roll chemistry with two of the game’s elite point guards in James Harden and Trae Young.
