The Philadelphia 76ers are 1-3 in the early parts of the season and while some fans will want to freak out, it’s fair to say that the team isn’t there yet. The Sixers had to play two of the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks at the beginning of the year who are two top contenders in the NBA.

That being said, there’s always room for improvement and the 76ers do have an open roster spot after waiving both Isaiah Joe and Charles Bassey at the end of the preseason. While having flexibility for a trade or the buyout market might be worth keeping, it wouldn’t be bad to fill the spot now with the current amount of free agents.

There’s a good handful of quality free agents as pointed out by ESPN’s Bobby Marks on Twitter. For the sake of argument, I’ll list five that could help bolster the depth even more.

5 potential free agent options to begin the season: Hassan Whiteside

In four games, Sixers fans have seen head coach Doc Rivers go to a center-by-committee approach with Montrezl Harrell, Paul Reed, and P.J. Tucker all seeing minutes at the five spot. However, if they want a more stabilizing force, then Hassan Whiteside might be the answer.

Whiteside was the backup to Rudy Golbert on the Utah Jazz last year and did a good job. Offensively, he’s an offensive rebounder and a lob threat. Defensive he’s one of the better rebounders and shot blockers. It’s honestly shocking that no team has signed him up to this point.
