Sixers overreaction: Tyrese Maxey is untouchable

For a lot of fans, this doesn’t qualify as an “overreaction.” There were lengthy discussions over the summer about whether or not the Sixers should consider involving Maxey in trade discussions for Kevin Durant. I’m personally of the belief that Maxey is in fact touchable, but only under very specific circumstances. And he is fast approaching the realm of untouchability.

Through eight games, Maxey is averaging 23.3 points and 3.4 assists on .511/.453/.774 shooting splits. He is somehow taking more 3s and making them at an even higher percentage. He is becoming more involved as a passer and facilitator with second units, and he is still an absolute nightmare to defend slashing to the rim while defenses focus on the initial challenges of containing Joel Embiid and James Harden.

Maxey is the Sixers’ third star. There’s no way around it. His shooting percentages might taper off as the season progresses, but Maxey is flat-out elite behind the 3-point line. He also possesses remarkable touch around the rim, with plenty of room to continue growing besides. His work ethic is well documented and his positive attitude is infectious in the locker room. He’s an absolute joy to watch, but more than that, he’s the kind of person who can bring about the best in others.

It’s not often that the city of Philadelphia is graced with such a wholesome and lovable star. There are such positive and pure emotions associated with Maxey, it’s easy to forget the city and team he plays for. That’s a credit to him and the work he puts in. It’s easy to root for a player who makes such pronounced improvements every season.
