Sixers: Player Grades for every player at the All-Star break

“Stats only don’t completely define player’s quality.” A line that perfectly suits Philly’s starter, PJ Tucker. His stats are not fancy, but the 14-year veteran is undoubtedly an essential piece of the team. An excellent free agent signed in June 2022, Tucker reunited with James Harden on the court and GM Daryl Morey at the Philadelphia 76ers. The 37-year-old forward has played most of the games for the team and was a starter in each of them.
On the court, he might average around four points and four rebounds; however, he is a leader in the locker room. Tucker is the only player with Championship experience on this roster, which clearly emphasizes his contribution as a mentor and leader for championship aspirant stars.
Tucker serves well as a perimeter defender on opposing forwards and is great at knocking down corner 3-pointers. Tactically also, Tucker’s off-ball movement allows open shots and spacing for primary scorers on the team and he knows his role well.
Interestingly, in a small ball game, PJ Tucker acts as a center for his team, allowing star center Joel Embiid some breathers. With his ball movement and spacing, Tucker fits perfectly into Doc River’s offensive flow. At the same time, his usage as a defender on a ball handler can also benefit other defenders on the team to force turnovers.
Ranked 5th in rebounding on the team, Tucker ensures he is effective on the periphery. His clutch plays on both ends of the floor make him an ultimate game-changer for his team. No wonder Philly sees a future with PJ, signing him to a 3-year contract.
