Danuel House Jr. was another off-season signing that seems to have been fast-tracked based on the former Houston Rockets connection. The Philadelphia 76ers signed three former Rockets from James Harden’s and Daryl Morey’s tenure with the franchise: PJ Tucker, Montrezl Harrell, and House.

It is worth noting those Rockets teams were serious Western Conference contenders, but it is also worth noting that was five years ago. House was signed to give the Sixers some wing depth and lineup flexibility as he can play the small and power forward positions.

The Sixers signed House to a 2-year, $8.5 million contract with the hopes that he might be that 7th or 8th man and give the team a spark off the bench. Through the first half of the NBA season, House’s contributions have been extremely pedestrian. He is getting playing time in about 70% of the games, but only seeing about 15 minutes per game.

In the minutes he is getting he is only producing 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, respectively. Those numbers are easily replaceable in a league flush with two-way wing players. It is all but certain House will not see any meaningful minutes for the Sixers come playoff time.

House has a player option for the 2023-24 season and I imagine he will exercise that option. He has not played enough time or had enough of a tryout to show other teams in the league what he can do and will likely not get more than the $4+ million the Sixers will have to play him on the open market.
