The NBA and NBAPA agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement over the weekend that could have big implications on the Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason. The new CBA introduced a second tax apron $17.5 million over the initial tax apron with increased penalties for teams that go over.

This could change how the 76ers approach the offseason and what they can and can’t spend on. While the team can still go over that $17.5 million apron, the incurred penalties may ultimately keep Philly from spending big.

As it stands right now, the 76ers are expected to be $2.1 million under the luxury tax if all player options are accepted, per Spotrac. With Philly teetering close to that line the team may end up having to cut ties with several players.

Here are 4 players the 76ers may have to cut ties with because of the new CBA:

4. Montrezl Harrell

To be fair, this probably is not someone who 76ers fans are going to lose much sleep over. Montrezl Harrell has had such a limited role on the team this season and he is someone who might not even get any minutes once the playoffs roll around.

Harrell has a player option for the 2023-24 season that pays him $2.7 million. Even though he plays a small role, he likely is going to opt out of his deal pursuing a bigger deal, even if it is a marginal one at best.

While it is beneficial to have a back-of-the-rotation player on the roster for the minimum, this will likely prompt the 76ers to part ways with Harrell this offseason. The team simply does not have the ability to pay him any kind of raise that another team may look to offer him.
