Sixers playoff scouting 2023: Nets’ forward Cameron Johnson

The Brooklyn Nets acquired Cameron Johnson in the blockbuster deal that sent Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns. He’s been the team’s starting power forward and has done well in that role. Since coming to the Nets he’s been averaging 16.6 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 37.2 percent from the 3-point line.

It’s doubtful that Brooklyn would let him walk in restricted free agency unless he was grossly overpaid like say Tobias Harris was by the Sixers. Like with Curry, the Philadelphia 76ers would have to complete a sign-and-trade with the Nets in order to acquire Johnson. It would probably take a three-team trade that would involve Harris and draft compensation.

If Johnson did somehow end up with the 76ers, might not be a better overall player than Harris, but he would be a better fit for what the team needs around Joel Embiid. He’s one of the best 3-and-D power forwards in the NBA which is what the Sixers need around their superstar.

There might only be one realistic free agent on this list for the Sixers, but it doesn’t mean that the franchise shouldn’t inquire about the other players on this list as well.
