1st Cut: Tobias Harris

Because of the inordinate time, I will spend on the last cut, I will not waste anyone’s time with Harris: he makes superstar money for high-end role-player production. Last year, he made more money than Embiid—yes, I know the latter’s extension doesn’t kick in until next year—which is absolutely hilarious no matter how you want to slice it.

Harris is the holder of an expiring contract so colossal that he could be an awesome rental on a play-in or middling team looking for some financial flexibility next off-season. I’m shocked the 76ers haven’t received more calls for him…

…is what I would have said if the 76ers hadn’t reportedly asked for Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and a draft pick for Harris from the Cavaliers when they kicked the tires on him. That is lunacy and a quintessential Darryl Morey move.

Remember when the Ben Simmons saga was ongoing? Every few weeks we’d hear that Morey called up a team and said something along the lines of “Hey, I’ll give you Ben Simmons for (insert best player here).” It was peak comedy.

Even with Morey’s shenanigans, I don’t doubt that someone will find his massive expiring enticing enough to give up real assets for him. That makes him a very solid second cut.
