Did Brian Windhorst hint Damian Lillard to the Sixers is happening?

The. NBA Hot Stove is in full effect right now as the sports world is searching for any and all news to fill the summer hiatus for three of the four major North American sports leagues. The top stories on ESPN and other basketball media have revolved around Damian Lillard. Last Thursday the Portland Trailblazers selected Scoot Henderson, a guard from the G-League Ignite, which reportedly bothered Dame as he wanted the team to trade the third pick for a player(s) to help him and the team be in win-now mode. With a potential breakup looming, it is fair to ask where Dame might want to play next year if it is not in Portland, and it seems like Brian Windhorst may have subconsciously suggested the Sixers on Get Up this morning…

Could the Sixers land Damian Lillard?

Now Brain Windhorst is a consummate professional and is usually at the forefront of NBA news, behind Adrian Wojnarowski of course, but Windy is really smart. The still photo in the above tweet is from last summer when he was skeptical and extremely curious after the Utah Jazz traded Royce O’Neal to the Brooklyn Nets for a first-round pick. That skepticism turned out to be correct as the Jazz blew up their roster trading both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

So did Windhorst just happen to have a slip-up in the Get Up segment or was something else on his mind, perhaps insider or unconfirmed information he has regarding the Damian Lillard situation? He did not just start to say the Sixers once, but TWICE!  Look, I am far from a conspiracy theorist, but the double slip-up is too much to ignore.

How the Sixers land Lillard would be the difficult part though. A trade would likely involve Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris (for salary reasons) and the team would become very old overnight. Knowing Daryl Morey though, if Dame does become available, I can’t imagine he would not at least explore the conversation with the Trailblazers.
