The Sixer Sense Podcast returns following a wild start to NBA free agency. For the Sixers specifically, the big news was James Harden deciding to opt into the final year of his contract with the desire to work with the team on a beneficial trade for both parties. Harden no longer wants to be in Philadelphia, however, he clearly overestimated the available free-agent market for his services. Is there any chance Harden will play for the Sixers in 2023-24?
Lucas Johnson and Jonathan Geib discuss potential Harden trades that the Sixers could look to make this offseason. The first two teams that were immediately linked to a trade with the Sixers were the Los Angeles Clippers and the New York Knicks. Do the guys see realistic trade packages from either of these teams that could see the Sixers remain in title contention?
Next up, the Sixers roster had some notable changes since free agency has begun. The team lost three contributing bench players Jalen McDaniels (signed with Toronto Raptors), Shake Milton (signed with Minnesota Timberwolves), and Georges Niang (signed with Cleveland Cavaliers). Niang was likely overpaid by the Cavs, but it would seem that the Sixers could have matched the contracts signed by both McDaniels and Milton. Finally, the Sixers did add Patrick Beverly over the weekend. His intensity and defensive prowess could prove helpful for a team that at times has appeared weak.
The podcast closes out with a look around the league at other notable free-agent signings. The Houston Rockets spent BIG money in signing Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks. They appear to be trying to fast-track their rebuild. Over in the East, the Milwaukee Bucks re-signed both Kris Middleton and Brook Lopez which keeps them at the top in the Conference. The guys discuss these and many more signings on this podcast episode. Give us a listen below!
