Sixers Podcast: Sixers match for Paul Reed + backup center competition
Welcome back to The Sixer Sense Podcast. In this episode, Lucas Johnson and Jonathan Geib begin by discussing the Sixers matching the Utah Jazz’s offer sheet for Paul Reed. It is safe to say this move was surprising for many Philly fans because the Sixers are now over the salary cap first apron with this signing due to the unique clause included by Danny Ainge. Was this the right move for the franchise? And who is Joel Embiid’s primary backup now with the logjam of centers on the roster?
Speaking of Sixers centers, Mo Bamba recently discussed his relationship with Embiid and acknowledged that Embiid had a part to play in Bamba’s choosing to come to Philly this offseason. It appears the two big men are friends and their friendship may be pivotal in the duo’s on-court play if head coach Nick Nurse foresees them playing together. In the past, big men on the roster have not had much success playing alongside Embiid. Can Bamba be the outlier?
In other free agent news, Patrick Beverly revealed on a podcast this past week that a shocking NBA coach had an impact on his decision to choose the Sixers in free agency. That coach is none other than the recently-fired Doc Rivers! You read that right. Apparently, Rivers told Beverly that Philly would be a great home for him and that the team would have ended their season differently last year had Beverly been on the roster. Do you think if Bev was here last season, the Boston Celtics series would have ended with a different result?
Lastly, our co-site expert, Kyle Pring, wrote about an interesting three-team James Harden trade on our website. What do Lucas and Jonathan think about the trade? What is your opinion of the proposed trade? Give the podcast a listen and leave us a comment!
