SG: Tyrese Maxey

Maxey is on his way to becoming a star. He is an elite shooter who averaged over 20 points per game as a 22-year-old playing with two other stars. The 6’2 guard can be a secondary creator, and the Sixers hope he blossoms into a superstar as he reaches his prime.

Maxey becomes a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024, which means his second contract will be up in 2028. Does he land a third deal to stay in Philadelphia? The Sixers have zero interest in letting him walk. Maxey is one of the league’s best young shooters and scorers. He could be a multiple-time All-Star over the next five years and will turn 28 on Nov. 4, 2028.

Maxey must improve his defense, but the 6’2 guard will always be somewhat limited on that end of the floor. It is why the 76ers targeted Cade Cunningham as his backcourt partner. He makes up for Maxey’s flaws. Cunningham has the size and ability to switch. He can also be the team’s top playmaker and put Maxey into a score-first role.

Tyrese Maxey is part of the long-term plan for the Philadelphia 76ers. They need a point guard and defense around him, but Daryl Morey knows how to find 3-and-D wings to complement his roster.
