76ers: 4 players with most to prove during training camp

Following an eventful offseason — for the lack of a better term — the Philadelphia 76ers recently kicked the tires on the 2023 training camp ahead of the preseason and regular season. As expected, extracurricular narratives flooded the team right away, as it has become rather evident that the team needs to address the elephant in the room to truly start the campaign on a good note.

Luckily for those already exhausted by one certain player and one front office executive’s histrionics, training camp should be rather competitive for the 76ers this time around. After all, the  roster still stands at 21, meaning that the inevitable roster should will provide some galvanizing play for some players with shakier standings.

Here are four players that have the most to prove this preseason.

1. Furkan Korkmaz

Korkmaz will be entering the final leg of the three-year deal he signed with the team back in 2021, making this essentially his prove-it season. After finding himself in Doc Rivers’ doghouse for much of last season, he will have to treat the preseason as some sort of an audition for a bigger role under Nick Nurse.

Frankly speaking, Korkmaz’s odds of netting a more robust serving of minutes this season has only taken an even worse turn. With the 76ers now littered with more solid options than him in the wing positions, showing a more all-around and flexible game will be mandatory for him to even be in the discussion.

Three-point shooting is his bread-and-butter, and anything hovering around just the average mark will be far from a good showing for him especially in light of Kelly Oubre Jr. and Danny Green’s additions. Otherwise, the Turkish guard may not need to go into one of his annual trade-me episodes any longer, as the front office may cut him right off the bat or use him as a trade bait if he underperforms in camp.
