4 players with most to prove during training camp for the 76ers

3. Jaden Springer

The 76ers haven’t been a haven of player development in recent years — a reality that Jaden Springer came to realize as soon as he set foot in Philadelphia.

Having barely seen the court in the first two years of his career, Springer remains on the 76ers roster currently on the outside looking in. Still, the ongoing training camp will be a defining opportunity for him to show his growth and make his case as a viable option for the coaching staff as a backup guard.

Now, there may not be a spot for Springer even if he stands out in camp with De’Anthony Melton and Patrick Beverley already being shoo-ins as the backups when the team is healthy, but health hasn’t been a strong point of this team at all, giving him more impetus to try and win out a role for himself as a potential gap-filler when needed.

Fortunately, Springer showed substantial improvement in his latest playoff stint with the G-League, which culminated in him being recalled by the team at the waning stages of last season and even excelling in the minuscule opportunities he was given. Hopefully, he builds off of that and manages to give the 76ers a younger option to stabilize the backcourt further.
