Paul Reed: Top reasons why Nick Nurse will elevate the Sixers

Paul Reed re-signed with the 76ers in the summer, and his “Out the Mud” following is ecstatic. As a home-grown, G-League legend for the Blue Coats, Reed is primed to elevate his game even more than his impressive showing in the postseason.

Under Nick Nurse, the Sixers’ backup to Joel Embiid last season will have a legit shot to show off his skill set. Though Doc Rivers gave Reed minutes at the five spot off the bench, Nurse could provide a system for Reed to flourish further.

Will Nurse give Reed the green light to shoot more perimeter shots? He is surely going to be asked to play solid defense and crash the boards. The question is not whether Reed can produce in a more prominent role, but rather it would come down to how he will be used in Nurse’s new scheme on offense and defense.

The NBA has seen forwards with unorthodox shooting techniques thrive under Nurse. Whether it is Chris Boucher or Pascal Siakam, Toronto’s pipeline of frontcourt, wing players has proven to be difficult to defend in the half-court set or up-tempo game.

Paul Reed could be the next forward to enhance his game under the coaching of Nick Nurse.
