Searching for PG but James Harden does not fit

These three teams are searching for their point guard of the present and future, but do not expect them to add the ten-time All-Star.

15. San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs had cap space this summer and chose to add more draft capital as the third team in trades. They drafted Victor Wembanyama to be their present and future star. San Antonio wants to give him time to develop. They do not expect to contend this season, which eliminates the need for James Harden.

14. Orlando Magic

Orlando drafted Anthony Black sixth overall, which speaks to their uncertainty at point guard. Markelle Fultz has shown flashes but struggles to stay healthy. Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony are not NBA-starting point guards. The Magic need a long-term solution at the position, but James Harden is not the answer for their young roster.

13. Utah Jazz

The Jazz may start Collin Sexton or Jordan Clarkson at point guard this season. They won a surprising 37 games in 2023, but are a rebuilding team. Utah is in the market for a star, but won’t be targeting James Harden, despite their need at his position.

Some teams do not have a fit for James Harden right now, but things could change quickly as the season plays out.
