The free agency market is not exactly teeming with attractive options right now, but there are still some noteworthy names out there who should pique the interest of many. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of those teams that still have an open roster spot, and while they are prevented from filling that opening right now, they do have a workaround to change that.
On that note, here are three free agents still available for picking who the 76ers front office should keep a close eye on. The team still has various needs despite their blockbuster offseason, and any one of these players should be able to help them parade a more foolproof roster ahead of their championship bid this coming season.
Nicolas Batum is the best free agent still available for the 76ers
Batum, who previously played for the 76ers, remains someone whom fans have been desirous of a reunion with. While he is believed to be closing in on retirement, there is no official word on that just yet, leaving some room for the front office to potentially convince him to return.
The sage veteran is no longer someone who can log heavy minutes, but his basketball smarts and positional versatility remain attractive assets to have from a veteran voice in the rotation. One of the most intelligent role players in the league, he is a very easy player to envision fitting well next to Philly's squadron of stars thanks to his low-usage brilliance and two-way efficiency.
Maxi Kleber would fortify Philly's frontcourt
Kleber has long been one of the few real three-and-D big men in the NBA. While injuries have taken away some of his effectiveness in that role, he remains a dependable, defensive-minded big man who can give any team a different look on both ends, at least in spurts.
The 76ers have a glut of big men right now, but there is little variance in the skill set of the players they currently have manning the position. Kleber, who played with LeBron over the last couple of years, would be a solid addition for the team's final roster spot.
Aaron Holiday would be a good insurance piece for the 76ers backcourt
Somehow, Aaron Holiday remains without a home for next season. While the backcourt is not necessarily in dire need of more playable bodies, having one will definitely not hurt, especially when that someone is an established bench operator like Holiday.
The 29-year-old will not wow you with stellar playmaking or eye-popping scoring, but he definitely understands his role as a stopgap option in the backcourt. He is a career 38.4 percent three-point shooter as well, and combined with his reliable perimeter defense, he would be a good depth insurance for the 76ers' backcourt.
