The Philadelphia 76ers now find themselves at the worst footing they have been in this season. Following their humiliating loss at home to the cellar dwelling Toronto Raptors, they are now 13 games below .500, and at this point, no one would really blame them if they just start sitting out their stars and deem this campaign as a lost cause.
However, we all know that the 76ers are too proud of a franchise to do what is the most reasonable under the circumstances, which is to bottom out as profusely as they can in hopes of landing a much better pick in this year’s draft, which is a highly touted one. Hence, this team will still do everything in its power to make the postseason, and them still being within striking distance from the playoffs-in tournament picture will only motivate them.
Having said that, they would be needing much more than what they currently have on deck if they want to truly make their playoff chase worthwhile. Hence, the front office will need to be as opportunistic as it can in the buyout market, which is already littered with familiar names at this juncture.
The Philadelphia 76ers should stay away from Bojan Bogdanovic
One attractive name who could soon find himself in the buyout market is Bojan Bogdanovic. The veteran forward, currently with the Brooklyn Nets, has not yet sniffed the court this season due to injury rehab, although previous reports had him on track to return this season. In fact, he was already cleared to resume on-court activities in late January.
However, things seem to be progressing really slow for the veteran on that end. Nearly a month after being cleared to participate more actively, he still has not shown up, and the Nets are saying that he remains without a clear timeline to return.
At this point, with Brooklyn not having a lot to play for anyway, they could just shut him down for the season, although a buyout agreement could be in play. But even if the latter takes place, the 76ers should probably stay away.
Philly does not need any more injured bodies. Despite the Croatian’s much-needed skill set and size at the forward position, the 76ers have to laser in on buyout candidates who can readily contribute, not those whom they need to nurse back to health.
The Philadelphia 76ers are already ailing from a myriad of injuries. Hence, to advance their desperate winning cause this season, they shouldn’t want to tend to more people.
