76ers are being dragged down by the very man trusted to save them

It’s time for the 76ers to get real and be bolder.

The Philadelphia 76ers have won their first two games to start the season, which is a great sign all things considered. Despite the team still having a handful ofmkey players out due to injuries, they managed to squeeze out a coiple of dubs to kick off their campaign on a high note. That has got to be reassuring at the very least.

But away from what is going on in the hardwood, the 76ers have some budding issues off the court they they must attend to whether they like it or not — and everything begins with the front office. Daryl Morey and his crew have become pretty sus for the most part, and while there are some notable standout moves on their part, the bad ones outweight the positives.

The longtime executive in particular should already be in the hot seat. He has made far too many moves that make little to no sense for the team, and even worse, he has backtracked from having a sensible line of thought when it comes to making decisions for the supposed betterment of the team.

The 76ers should seriously consider moving on from Daryl Morey

It was the principal idea of Daryl Morey to further double down on the team’s name-hunting from last year, which is precisely why they were able to land Paul George back then. However, the 76ers did not just nab him — they went a step ahead and handed him a max contract.

Now, that move aged like milk. George is a walking injury risk and has yet to play this season. There is also the indisputable fact that he is on a seemingly permanent decline, which is not surprising given his age.

There is also the decision to extend Joel Embiid to the tune of another mega deal. While the former MVP has the accolades to justify such a lucrative investment, it was nevertheless a shortsighted choice on the front office’s part. Embiid was already injured when they handed him that deal, yet there was not even any hint of hesitation on their part to push through with that risky choice.

Of course, his counterintuitive decision to re-sign the likes of Eric Gordon and Kyle Lowry after stating that the team would like to go younger just a few months before that also triggered a lot of derision among fans, and rightfully so.

Now, it was under Morey that the 76ers drafted the likes of Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe, but he cannot claim sole credit for those moves. There was some degree of luck involved therein.

The 76ers should start considering parting ways with Daryl Morey. He has long been an innovative roster engineer, but almost everyone has caught up with him in that regard. And so far, there are far more reasons to cut ties with him than to extend this partnership.
