The Philadelphia 76ers will enter the 2026-27 season as one of the definitive favorites to win the title by virtue of their star-studded core, but their roster still has room for improvement. Their backup center situation remains quite dicey, which is why the front office should keep a close eye on low-cost centers who could end up being available during the season. One name they should especially pay close attention to is Jericho Sims, who is currently stuck on the Bucks bench.
The 28-year-old Sims is on an expiring contract this season, which means that the Bucks are already primed to test the waters on what they can extract from him. The 76ers could definitely use someone like him, an extremely efficient finisher who can protect the rim in spurts with his strong bounce and athleticism.

Sims actually turned in his best year as a pro this past season as he got handed his biggest role yet. In nearly 20 minutes per outing, he averaged five points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists a night, converting on a mind-boggling 78.4 percent of his field goal attempts.
Joel Embiid looks much healthier ahead of the upcoming season compared to recent years, but the 76ers still have to fortify their cushion behind him off the bench as much as possible. Quantitatively speaking, the team does not exactly have a dearth of options at the backup center position, but none of their current big men is entrenched as a primary option.
Should the 76ers grow unsatisfied with their current state of big men off the bench, Sims will definitely be worth taking a close look at. He is obviously a great finisher in his limited attempts, and that will be especially handy to have in a team littered with shot creators who would sap all the attention from opposing defenses.
Sims will not do much elsewhere, but that is actually a good thing on this roster. The 76ers do not need any more guys who will demand touches on the offensive end, so a low-usage, high-efficiency complementary piece like Sims is ideal to have on the roster.
Philadelphia cannot take any chances with their backup big man situation this coming season. To that effect, reinforcing that spot should remain high on their priority list, and Jericho Sims offers them an inexpensive and low-maintenance solution.
