The Philadelphia 76ers should be in the business of trying to get all the lowest hanging fruits. While definitely far from ideal, it is perhaps the most practical way for the front office to make up for their slew of deficiencies and string of puzzling acts and omissions this offseason.
Fortunately for them, the front office did well in at least maintaining some flexibility to improve the roster and rectify the issues that could arise later. But having said that, they should not pass up on opportunities when they present themselves, especially with training camp just right around the corner.
One key area the 76ers should still try to improve on is functional depth, especially at the forward positions. Philly has brought in several new faces such as Trendon Watford, Jabari Walker, and Dominick Barlow, but with the team being very frail at forward, the front office should double down on their options to give them a bigger margin of error when it comes to minting lineups and piecing them together, right?
Well, they might just have the perfect player to target who most certainly will not cost an arm and a leg. Enter Olivier-Maxence Prosper, who was recently waived by the Mavericks.
The 76ers should target Olivier-Maxence Prosper after getting waived by the Mavs
After two, unproductive seasons in Dallas, the Mavericks have reportedly decided to part ways with Prosper, who was the 24th overall pick in the draft just two years ago. They are waiving him via the stretch provision, meaning that they will still be paying him until his stretched deal ends.
The Canadian forward didn’t see much action with the Mavericks, appearing in only 92 outings in two seasons and averaging exactly 10 minutes per outing. He never got a fair shake in Dallas, but perhaps the 76ers should take a flier on the former first-round pick.
There was a reason why Prosper was a first-round selection in 2023. His potential on defense should excite teams, especially since he will be coming off as a very cheap addition, perhaps even on a two-way setup.
The 76ers need more bodies at small forward, and Prosper will definitely be a good reclamation project for the team as they aim to get younger and to slowly build for the future without making hefty investments that could paralyze them down the road.
For that reason, it would not be a bad idea for the Philadelphia 76ers to eye Olivier-Maxence Prosper. He still has the potential to be a productive role player in the league, especially if he is given more run.
