The Philadelphia 76ers obviously have an influx of star power and raw talent on their roster ahead of the upcoming season, but no lineup is ever perfect. For this squad, one of the immediate concerns is three-point shooting, which is admittedly lacking despite the handful of flashy additions they pulled off in the open market. To that effect, the front office should keep close tabs on low-cost trade candidates, and one possible option for them is Simone Fontecchio, a bench piece for the Heat.
Fontecchio, who re-signed with the Heat to the tune of a veteran's minimum deal this offseason, drained 37.5 percent of his three-point shots last season. That makes him a fine, low-cost target for the 76ers if their need for more firepower on the perimeter emerges next season. And given that this has been an issue for the last couple of years already, the front office should play it safe and have him on their radar anyway.
The 76ers could target Simone Fontecchio for a cheap shooting boost
Philly has more shooters next season compared to the previous one on paper, thanks to the addition of Anfernee Simons, Dean Wade, and Labaron Philon Jr. Jaylen Brown and LeBron James are no slouches on that end, either. However, the team could use a more secure shooter like Fontecchio, given that those guys can be quite streaky from beyond the arc.
At 6'7", Fontecchio also brings good size for a floor spacer. He is also a competent defender. While he is not the most eye-popping athlete out there, he is at least smart and is able to leverage his length to cover enough ground on D. That will be especially valuable for a relatively small team like the 76ers.
With the Italian forward making just the veteran's minimum, it should be pretty easy for the 76ers' brain trust to match his salary. Also, with his footing in Miami a bit shaky now that they brought in Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr., the Heat could even be enticed to part ways with him for just a second-round pick.
The 76ers have an abundance of talent, especially when it comes to shot creation. However, to maximize that, they will need as much shooting as they can get, and someone like Simone Fontecchio can offer a healthy dose of the same in spurts. Even better, it will likely not take a trek to pry him away from the Heat.
