76ers drop the final straw to their most disappointing season ever

A rather poetic ending to the 76ers this season.

At this point, nothing can really make the Philadelphia 76ers flinch any more. The sheer disappointment that they have presented to fans this season cannot be disputed, and there is perhaps credence to arguing that this could very well be the most disappointing season in franchise history.

From Joel Embiid being hurt all season long and having a bleak outlook towards recovery, Paul George’s aging process accelerating at an unprecedented pace, and the team housing a slew of players on a steep decline, the recipe was just there for the 76ers to cook up a season to remember, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

And now, it seems like Philly has now put an indelible mark to cap off a deflating campaign by dropping the final straw on the playing status of the final member of the vaunted Big Three who is technically still standing — Tyrese Maxey.

The 76ers have now ruled Tyrese Maxey out for the rest of the season

After weeks of hazy injury updates, the 76ers have finally shut Tyrese Maxey down for the rest of the season, as confirmed by ESPN’s Shams Charania in an on-the-spot announcement.

For some reason, the team’s medical staff consistently vacillated on Maxey’s playing status on a nightly basis, officially tabbing him as questionable to play at times. With just six games remaining on their schedule, the 76ers finally did the inevitable and sensible by opting to just sit him out.

This season, Maxey’s efficiency has taken a hit with defenses more focused on limiting his production. He still managed to end the season averaging a career-high 26.3 points per outing, but it is clear that he has taken a bit of a step back this year.

The treatment plan for Maxey remains to be determined, but this should not hold him out for much longer. Still, finger injuries can be finicky and pesky if not full treated, and shelving him completely should do the trick on the rest part of the supposed treatment.

Hopefully, Maxey can bounce back next season and take another step towards superstardom. After all, with his co-stars having a hazier road back to playing like their usual selves, Maxey’s performance could very well dictate the team’s fate in the following years.

But for now, the Philadelphia 76ers will rest easy to end the season, just racking up as many losses as they can in pursuit of a much better immediate goal.
