The NBA's commissioner is requesting a final decision, and the Philadelphia 76ers should follow suit. Potential targets continue to slip away as the front office awaits the superstar's announcement.
The 76ers need LeBron's decision
There is no denying that adding LeBron James on a minimum contract to a roster that already boasts Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown establishes the 76ers as a championship contender. A team with talent, versatility, scoring power, and winning experience is, on paper, the perfect recipe for success.
However, the longer this saga drags on, LeBron's alternatives are being snapped up by other front offices with similar ambitions. While Adam Silver's plea comes from a place of job security and desperation to boost the league's finances, the 76ers have created a dangerous roster -- but without quality depth, Mike Gansey's tenure will be no different than his predecessors'.
When speaking at the Game Plan Summit at Fanatics Fest in New York City, Silver stated, "We have to finish up the schedule, and where LeBron plays affects the schedule -- opening week, Christmas. So I need him to make a decision."

While I am sure LeBron James couldn't care less about how this is affecting the season schedule, Adam Silver's appeals mirror what the 76ers must currently be feeling. The franchise is in limbo while the legendary forward flirts with any organisation that is willing to take the bait.
The worst-case scenario could see James return to his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, not only leaving Philadelphia without a game-changing superstar, but it is a decision that will bolster an Eastern Conference rival's roster.

Philadelphia will be left with few capable options in free agency
Usually, at this point in free agency, the players still available on the market are unlikely to change the trajectory of a franchise -- unless they are named LeBron James and they are embracing the circus they have created. And by the way, due to the outrageous career he has had, why would he not? But that doesn't help Philadelphia.
Options are still available to the 76ers; however, none of them are needle-movers. Philadelphia's salary situation creates a scenario in which whoever Mike Gansey opts to acquire will never match the attributes of arguably the greatest basketballer of all time.
If the Sixers decide to head down the comical route, both Antetokounmpo brothers are available -- unfortunately, neither heralds the nickname 'The Greek Freak'. Given this team has the vision of lifting a championship, it's more likely they chase the signature of DeMar DeRozan. Or maybe a timely reunion with fan favorite Nicolas Batum would be a preferable and cost-effective alternative.
Whatever Mike Gansey decides, his main priority will be to land LeBron James. Out of every free agent available to sign for the franchise, he is the only player who can be lauded as a genuine superstar -- even in the twilight of his career. Nevertheless, the Philadelphia 76ers need a decision, and fast.
