Parading the most loaded starting five in the league, the Philadelphia 76ers should easily become one of the best teams when it comes to scoring the basketball. Striking a harmonious balance between their stars, however, will be a challenge all year long, but it appears that the coaching staff is already planning a major change for their newcomer, Jaylen Brown, to give him more opportunities for easy baskets by putting him in the dunker spot more often.

Nick Nurse, as per The Philly Voice's Adam Aaronson, has already been experimenting this preseason by having Brown in the dunker spot near the basket to the effect that he will be able to get easier attempts to rack up points. The All-Star wing admits that he did not have a lot of experience in that regard when he was still with the Celtics, but noted that it is not completely unfamiliar to him.

The 76ers are planning a big shift for Jaylen Brown to rev up the offense

Brown is an elite three-level scorer who already has an NBA championship and a Finals MVP trophy under his belt, but with the 76ers having other high-caliber players around him, it is sensible for the coaching staff to find ways to make life easier for him on offense and take advantage of opposing defenders constantly gluing themselves to his other teammates.

Placing JB into the dunker spot should create a lot of advantages for the 76ers on the offensive end. Between LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe, Philly has four other players aside from him who can command double teams, especially when they drive to the rim or post up. By having Brown as a stationary threat near the basket, the team should be able to deter players from collapsing inside.

This tactic is also a clever way to add some more variety to the offense. The 76ers have an abundance of talent, but off-ball utility is one vulnerable spot for them. Defenses will probably be content doubling down on their stars and taking their chances by leaving them open from beyond the arc.

However, having someone as talented as Brown in the dunker spot instead of merely standing around in the perimeter will put more pressure on the defense and make them think twice before committing to actions near the rim.

Another interesting nugget is the fact that this scheme should allow for more inverted actions between Brown and the other stars. That way, the 76ers can generate mismatches and force smaller defenders to guard the paint.

In theory, there are numerous benefits to implementing this shift. Jaylen Brown is already elite, but with this tweak, the 76ers can add more flavor to their scoring attack and give the All-Star more opportunities to shine individually while also polishing their collective offense.
